I could not agree more! One way to get around this, by the way, is
XShelf: http://homepage.mac.com/khsu/XShelf/XShelf.html
It is a docking space for drag-and-drop, which has a CLI utility, so I
can tell it to make a file available to D&D from deep in the terminal.
