Except that it's broken, at least in v. 2.5 and whatever version the
original poster is using. I just tried it again, this time selecting
Nakakoji view instead of "Export as text": choose a new template
with the popup, hit update, and the view is not updated. It's a simple
bug (well, simple to observe).
But here we discover a solution to the little irritation pointed
out before in the thread: we wanted the "Export as text" window
to default to something other than the whole document, to avoid the
long delay in opening it. And all we have to do is select "Nakakoji
view" instead, which seems to be the same thing as "Export as text",
but opens with a different radio button selected.

The original poster was making what seemed to be a solid point about
the organization of menus. Of course the HTML view and the Nakakoji
view are going to be different.
