It's illustrated in the PDF manual that comes with the distribution: in the note text window, there are a few widgets on the bottom: the little script icon that runs an attached script, the web button, etc. The second from the left is the file link button. The only way that I know of to make a file link is to drag and drop from the Finder to this widget; I wish there were a more general way, as it's not always convenient to have the file exposed in the Finder.
Note that you should have the latest version if you intend to use this, as it fixes a bad bug regarding file links that I identified in earlier versions; see the archives of the first few weeks of this mailinglist if you want the details.
