[Tb] Learning TB - temporary list

I've got a bunch of mundane questions that have come up as I'm learning
TB, but am currently stuck as I cannot upload those as blog entries,
using the Post as Weblog feature. My understanding of the problem is
that the blogging API services have been changing, and are currently
incompatiable with TB, at least in some situations (like mine).

So my plan is to export them as HTML, and FTP them somewhere where I can
get some feedback.

In the meantime I have set up a mailing list and plan to run it for the
next 2 weeks. It's designed so that I can ask stupid questions and see
if I can get over the learning curve hump.

You can join the list by sending a blank message to

The archives will be at http://archive.mail-list.com/learn-tb/

I am interested in using TB as a software system design tool. I would
like to collect various facts about the software system, and output
useful information in both HTML and plain text. I would want to store
each piece of information only once, and have links or pointers to the
one source whenever needed. I don't see TB as a source code management
system.

I'm wondering if I can use TB to visually document systems. With a map
mode, my first guess is yes. So I want to see if I can do some simple
flowcharts, with logic branches.

I want to use TB as a lightweight database. For instance I have created
a container that holds a bunch of notes, one for each computer I'm
tracking. I have added attributes like last time the computer was
backed up, or updated, or what version of OS it's running. What I
haven't been able to do is export that into a tabular report, printable
on paper.

I want to do a "mail-merge" where data from my notes is inserted into
templates, either creating one big file for all my notes, or creating
one file per note. I'm thinking that sort of capability is already
there, in the form of HTML or plain text exports.

I want to get TinderToolBox by Marc-Antoine Parent working. This seems
like an invaluable tool for massaging my data, without being in TB. And
it seems like an invaluable tool for importing data into TB, and I've
got hundreds of outlines in Inspiration that I would love to get
imported.

So if I can make progress on those tasks, I will be absolutely
delighted.=20

I plan to keep blogging my learning steps, and will summarize anything
of value on my blog, and report the location of that blog at the end of
this experiment.

So if you want to ask questions of your own, or can help answer mine,
please send a blank email to learn-tb-on__AT__mail-list.com.

Thanks in advance.
