Why SLRN?

Slrn is best newsreader I've ever used, and I've tried a handful. Thoth and Halime (especially), and similar programs, are pretty and have promise, but they are not nearly as fast or useable as slrn. The latter is a mature piece of software that, like mutt for email (which I also recommend) is extremely configurable, lets you do most things with a single keystroke, and has filtering and scoring that's actually useful. With the Jaguar Terminal slrn colors the text (headers, different levels of quotation, etc. can all be a different color; you can choose the color for each element and its background in a configuration file), making it easier to scan postings.
